Be warned though, many people find the show so good that it’s actually addictive and they find themselves returning again and again to be wowed, shocked and moved each time. The play is so successful because it’s a universal story of class and romance but also because it taps into many of our deepest-routed superstitions. You will laugh, cry and probably experience every other emotion in between as well. It’s a show that has everything, even songs.

Even though it has songs though, it isn’t necessarily a musical; more like, as I believe the author of the play actually called it, it’s a play with songs. What’s the difference I hear you ask? Well, there are no camp dances, no cheesy choruses and certainly no outrageous characters- this is realistic and harsh and the songs, whilst sometimes funny, are never over the top or hyperbolic; it is a play with songs, not a musical and there are hints we may even see Blood brothers the movie in the future. That is something to bear in mind if you are considering taking younger people to see this show- it has a bit of violence and swearing and the overall themes are not all that suitable for younger audience members. However, if you don’t have young children or are simply leaving them at home for the weekend and having some time of then Blood Brothers could certainly be the show for you. Just remember to bring some comfortable shoes; you’re going to be stood up for quite a long time at the end of the show giving the standing ovation which it deserves.
